Mel B's father Martin Brown has died after a five-year battle with cancer. He was 63.

The former Spice Girls star has confirmed the sad news on social media, with a moving photo of her dad's hand in hers.

America's Got Talent, on which Mel B is a judge, has reportedly cancelled production this week to allow her time to mourn.

"It is with great sadness after a five year battle to multiple myeloma cancer our loving father Martin Brown passed away aged 63 peacefully yesterday," Mel captioned the touching Instagram post, from her and sister Danielle.

"Both of us children were by his side and would like to say thank you to... all the doctors and nurses for their amazing care and support over the years. Please respect our privacy and let us as a united family grieve."

Mel and Danielle have been estranged for years after disagreeing on the 'Viva Forever' hitmaker's husband, director Stephen Belafonte, over rumours that he had physically abused her.

The year is off to a rough start for America's Got Talent, after host Nick Cannon quit the show last month.
