Stephie Key's sexy sci-fi fails to get funded

The daughter of former Prime Minister John Key has spectacularly failed to raise the funds she wanted for a sexy sci-fi movie.

Stephie Key's Kickstarter page for Lazarniverse accumulated just $2,727 of its $35,000 goal.

Under her pseudonym Cherry Lazar, the 23-year-old pitched the film as being set on a space brothel with extra-terrestrial prostitutes and a tone something like Beyond the Valley of the Dolls meets Flash Gordon.

She offered pledgers erotically titled rewards such as 'pop my cherry' and 'cherry on top', but only found 23 backers willing to hand over cash, raising less than 10 percent of what she was aiming for.

Lazarniverse was to be filmed on-location in the Nevada desert, with production starting in July.

Key posted photos on the page of prospective filming locations she had scouted, along with photos of her cast and crew, and concept art.

But alas, it appears nobody will be journeying to the groovy world of Lazarniverse any time soon.
