The Boss is taking his distaste for The Man to the next level with a new song that targets Donald Trump.

Bruce Springsteen and long-time friend Joe Grushecky have released a protest anthem entitled 'That's What Makes Us Great'.

"Don't tell me a lie / And sell it as a fact / I've been down that road before / And I ain't going back," sings Springsteen in the lyrics.

"Don't you brag to me / That you never read a book / I never put my faith / In a con man and his crooks."

The 'Born in the USA' singer doesn't shy away from political allegiances as some artists do, having campaigned for Hillary Clinton and publicly rebuking Trump as a "moron".

"He's really quite an embarrassment if you're from the US," Springsteen told media.

Grushecky tells the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette he wrote the song and invited The Boss to appear on it.

"I sent it to him and he liked it," says Grushecky.

"I said, 'What do you think about singing on it?' He gave it the Bruce treatment."

Grushecky says he turned against Trump when the former Celebrity Apprentice host mocked a disabled reporter.

"How could a person like that be president of the United States? Regardless of all the other (stuff), that to me is appalling," says Grushecky.

"I have special needs people in my family and in my neighbourhood. I worked with special needs people my whole life and I was really offended by it."

'That's What Makes Us Great' premiered on E Street Radio.
