Ed Sheeran could quit music for a decade - source

British singing sensation Ed Sheeran could quit music for up to a decade at the end of his current tour, according to sources close to the star.

The source told UK tabloid the Daily Star that the 'Shape of You' singer wanted to get married and have kids.

"Ed has pretty much achieved everything there is to achieve in music," the friend said.

"He absolutely loves what he does and is riding the wave of his success at the moment, but at the same time he wants a more normal life."

It could be five to 10 years before he released his next album - if he were to release another one at all, the source suggested.

Sheeran, 26, is currently touring his latest album Divide through the United Kingdom, United States and Central and South America, which will see him on the road until October.

He has already previously said he won't have children until he's ready to take a break from touring.

Sheeran already has a reputation as somewhat of a recluse - he went on hiatus in 2016, spending some of that time bungy jumping in Queenstown and being flown in one of Sir Peter Jackson's planes.

Shortly before resurfacing with Divide earlier in 2017, he told the Daily Star he loved New Zealand so much he wanted to become a citizen.

"I've always said that if a world war breaks out, the one place I would go to is New Zealand because no one is going to be bothered to come that far to invade," he said.

Sheeran said he'd received an email from somebody "involved with that [citizenship]", but it's not known if he made a formal application.
