Chris Cornell performed before fans in Detroit mere hours before taking his own life and footage has emerged of the final moments of his last ever concert.
The Soundgarden and Audioslave rocker retired to the Detroit's MGM Grand Casino Hotel after the Fox Theater gig where he died by way of suicide, according to a coroner's report.
Cornell is said to have delivered a quality performance, but there are conflicting reports over his demeanour at the final concert.
Billboard says in their glowing review of the gig that he was in "high spirits" and that "at no point during [the] concert could anyone at Detroit's Fox Theatre have guessed that lead singer Chris Cornell would be dead just a few hours later".
However, a reporter for the Detroit Free Press claims to have known something was amiss.
"It was clear that something wasn't right with the 52-year-old Cornell during the Fox performance," says Ashley Zlatopolsky.
"Just one or two songs in, it was as if the energy had exited his body, and what was left was a shell of a man scrambling to do his job... it seemed like Cornell wasn't mentally present."
The video from the very end of the Fox Theatre set shows Cornell walking offstage for the last time.
His final song of the night was Badmotorfinger's 'Slaves & Bulldozers' and while performing it, Soundgarden worked in a little bit of Led Zeppelin's 'In My Time of Dying'.
