Daniel Rutledge reviews John Wick: Chapter 2

John Wick: Chapter 2 is superb.

The sequel to the cult classic ups the ante and doubles down on what makes these films so great - unbelievably thrilling action executed by virtuoso choreographers with a perfect blend of stunts and special effects.

Every gunshot, every punch, every hit is conceived and performed to deliver maximum impact possible upon the audience and to provide maximum entertainment.

Several of those thrilling impacts are then sewn together into extended sequences that are rhythmically calculated masterfully and end up as glorious symphonies of violence.

The comic book style mythology of the assassin world established in the first film is expanded upon in the sequel, somewhat to its discredit. I think as a whole package, the original is better - but Chapter 2 is greater where it counts most, in the action itself.

If you're a fan of real, un-watered down action cinema, they don't come better than this.

Five stars.
