No audition needed for Kiwi actor Cliff Curtis to impress Hollywood legend James Cameron

Kiwi actor Cliff Curtis says he's feeling "awesome" at the moment, and he has every right to be.

Hollywood heavyweight director James Cameron has just signed him on to appear in all four of the upcoming Avatar sequels.

The director skyped Curtis to break some of the most exciting news of the actor's life.

"It was straight up; he just goes, so Cliff, how'd you like to do four movies. [I said] hang on Jim, just hang on a second, can you repeat that?"

Cameron knows a thing or two about actors, he's worked with some of the best and biggest.

That makes his admission to Curtis even more exciting.

"He said to me - I don't think he even realised it.. he said I think this is the very time I've cast someone without having an audition.. so that's pretty good! "

Curtis believes it was his role in the award winning New Zealand drama The Dark Horse, where he played homeless chess genius Genesis Potini, that helped clinch the deal.

"If you can transform into that, you can pretty much transform into anything. That was his vote of confidence," Curtis mused.

Cameron is also a big fan of one of Curtis' newest roles, Travis in Fear the Walking Dead.

Season three of is about to premiere, and Curtis promises "it's gonna get a little more intense".

"Travis - he's now over being the English teacher.. he comes back to season 3 a lot harder, and a lot more willing to get his hands dirty."
