The big wins of Family Feud

  • 22/05/2017

Kiwi gameshow Family Feud has been celebrating some big wins lately, with tonight's Parker family the latest to win a car. This makes them the 11th family to win a vehicle on the show, including the win last week.

They also won $15,000 cash in total across their five nights on the show.

The popular television show is nearing 300 episodes. So what have the past winning families been up to since they left, and what did they spend their cash on?

The Stedmances

For the Stedmances of Massey, winning $15,000 and a car last year allowed each family member to live out a dream. Joy Stedance purchased the caravan she had been wanting for years.

Jade put her winnings towards the purchase of a new house, while Justin Stedance used the money to get his RX7 back in action, after spending many hours with his nephew Thomas  in the garage getting it road-worthy.

His wife Danielle headed Perth with their daughters, Ava and Amber to see their Grandparents.

The Normans

Desiree, Dave, Atarangi and Raymond Norman appeared on the show for the maximum five nights, during which they also got the highest fast money score achieved at the time.

'Nana Atarangi' and 'Papa Dave' were on their way to Family Feud filming when their car broke down, so they ended up selling the Suzuki Swift and splitting the cash  putting it towards one that could handle their Bay of Islands location.

"The swift was a little too sporty for those gravel roads!" Desiree Norman says.

With the rest of their share of the cash they took all 21 children and grandchildren to Rainbow's End for the day.

Raymond Norman paid off their credit card debts, which he said "was a great relief ".

Desiree Norman and her partner used their share to put towards building  their first home. "We just purchased a piece of Auckland land and will start building later this year - we look forward to moving in just before Christmas hopefully!"

Many of the lucky families have managed to take well-earned holidays, some for the first time. The Lock family spent the $15,000 they won on holidays to Hawaii and Samoa, as well as a much anticipated fire pit at their home. The Russek family are hoping to put their $15,000 winnings towards a family holiday to Rarotonga.

The Gullerys

Half of the Gullery family, who took home $10,000 and a car, said they're going to use their share of the money for some home renovations. "[We're] creating a new laundry area in the downstairs of our home as well as updating the guest toilet! I know it may sound a bit boring but without Family Feud's help, it may have sat like this for years!" Sarah Gullery says.

Lisa Gullery says she and her partner Troy plan to add our winnings to our home loan deposit. "Our deposit for our first home is pretty small, but will grow a whole lot now. Getting into a first home is a dream of ours and this is really helping to make this a reality," she said.

The whole family says they're also going to put some dollars towards a "fancy dinner date" to celebrate.

The Massey family says they went into the show, simply for some "family bonding time".

"We went in with the attitude that it didn't matter if we win or lose - let's just have some fun."

They sold their car back to the dealer to make splitting the prize easier. Now the money is being put towards home renovations, a new family car and a couple of holidays to Austraila and the UK.

Lee Massey says for those wanting to go on the show, "do it, don't hesitate and have fun".

"The experience is great, especially learning about what's behind the set of a show. And a win is just a bonus."
