Lemonheads frontman Evan Dando's Auckland gig has been cancelled at the last minute after he was refused entry into New Zealand.

In a Facebook post, venue The Tuning Fork said they weren't sure why, but "regretfully have no choice but to cancel the show".

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused."

Dando, who shot to fame in the early 1990s fronting grunge-pop group the Lemonheads, was due to play The Tuning Fork in Auckland on Sunday night. He missed his gig in Christchurch on Saturday night after missing a flight from Melbourne on Friday night.

Dando has a history of drug use, including heroin. It's not known if this is why he wasn't allowed into New Zealand.
