Pop star Taylor Swift has reappeared in public for just the second time in almost six months, congratulating Oklahoma City Thunder player Russell Westbrook for winning the NBA's Most Valuable Player award in an online video.

The 'Bad Blood' hitmaker vanished from the public eye shortly after the conclusion of her 1989 tour last year, appearing at the beginning of the year to release a new song with Zayn Malik before disappearing again.

Last month she briefly emerged to pay tribute to victims of the Manchester bombing, before going back to ground.

Now, a month later, fans have been able to see Swift for the first time since January.

In her cheeky video, posted to the Thunder's Twitter account, Swift jokes that she taught Westbrook all he knows about basketball.

"I remember the first time you beat me at basketball and I was very upset and you said, if you remember correctly, you said, 'You just have to shake it off'," Swift quips.

"So essentially, we have each other to thank for these careers, obviously. So that's why I'm a part of your congratulations video because we go back, what, 20 years - actually that's a fake story and I wish it were the truth."

Enthusiastic fans have praised not just the star's return to the public eye, but also her new hairstyle, which appears to have gone back to the distinctive curls from early in her rise to fame.

Swift broke her pattern of releasing an album every two years last year, leaving a question mark over when she'll next be releasing new music.

Now, speculation is mounting after the new video's release that Swift may be finally be plotting her return to the limelight.
