Discovery Channel's 'Phelps vs. Shark' special leaves viewers lukewarm

It's been dubbed as the most underwhelming race of the year.

Michael Phelps's highly anticipated race against a great white shark was watched by many and it seems it was too much to handle for the internet.

Phelps did race the ocean beast, but not the real thing.

The "race" constituted calculating the speed of a great white shark and superimposing shark footage over Phelps.

He swam in its natural habitat off the coast of South Africa in 56-degree waters.

The simmer clocked in at 38.1 seconds to the great white's 36.1.

Discovery channel maintains it never said he would be actually racing a real shark, but that hasn't stopped the online storm brewing.
