It's official, Joe Pesci is making a comeback.

The actor is leaving retirement to reteam with Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro in mob movie The Irishman, with Harvey Keitel and Bobby Cannavale in talks to also join, according to Deadline.

Pesci hasn't appeared onscreen since 2010's Love Ranch. It'll be his fourth teaming with Scorsese (after Raging Bull, Goodfellas and Casino) and his seventh with De Niro.

The Irishman will be based on the true story of the disappearance of American labour union leader Jimmy Hoffa.

Pacino will take on the role of Hoffa, Pesci will portray Mafia boss Russell Bufalino, De Niro will star as mob hitman Frank 'The Irishman' Sheeran, Keitel is in talks for the role of mobster Angelo Bruno and Cannavale would play mobster 'Crazy' Joe Gallo.

Netflix will finance The Irishman and distribute to cinemas for an Oscar-qualifying run, with filming set to take place in New York.
