Kesha opens up in emotional new song 'Praying'

After a long and nasty stretch of legal entanglements with Dr Luke, Kesha has re-emerged victoriously into the musical scene with emotional new song, 'Praying'.

The singer makes no qualms of hiding the last few rocky years, addressing it in the intro to the song with, "If I am alive, why? Why?

"If there is a God or whatever, something, somewhere, why have I been abandoned by everyone and everything I've ever known? I've ever loved?"

Kesha wrote a candid post on Lena Dunham's Lenny blog this week about her new song.

"I channelled my feelings of severe hopelessness and depression," she says.

'Praying' has been applauded by her fans, who are calling it "a beautiful song", "a musical genius" and thanking her for her courage in sharing it. It's also quickly reached number four on US iTunes.

Despite her ongoing legal battles, the record was still produced under Kemosabe, a joint label between Dr Luke and Sony's.

A spokesperson for Dr Luke stated that "there was no change in Kesha's contractual recording obligations - she has not succeeded on any legal claim or motion to avoid them. Now, as legally required all along, the album was released with Dr Luke's approval by Kemosabe."

'Praying' is the first single from her new album, Rainbow, which is due to be released August 11th.
