Review: Believe the hype, Baby Driver rules

Edgar Wright's Baby Driver is receiving huge hype, with some critics calling it the coolest movie of 2017.

It's hard to argue with that claim - this is one you don't want to miss on the big screen, with the volume turned way up.

This film manages to capture that special feeling of driving a car to loud music you love and expand upon it, somehow turning that feeling into a feature length fantasy of car chases, gunfights and heists.

The likes of Queen, the Commodores, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion, Young MC, Blur, The Damned, Beck and the Beach Boys drive the action, with gunshots forming extra percussion and cars swerving to the tune of the music.

It's unbelievably cool.

On top of the action, there's a lovely, engaging story, all told with a cracking script that's consistently hilarious.

It's a blast of fresh air, a wildly original film that stands out in a release slate jam-packed with sequels, remakes, reboots and adaptations.

While you wait for Baby Driver to be released next week, stay indoors over the cold weekend and enjoy an '80s classic, the fourth Friday the 13th movie.

Despite another eight films coming after it, the 1984 movie was subtitled The Final Chapter and intended by Paramount Pictures to be the last, the studio seemingly embarrassed by the success of the series.

It looks noticeably of a higher quality than the first three films in some respects, particularly the cast, which includes quintessential '80s movie stars Corey Feldman and Crispin Glover, along with Bruce Mahler of Police Academy and Camilla and Carey More, a pair of identical twins who were made famous in a Doublemint commercial.

It's a highly enjoyable film, with Jason's violent morgue escape and Glover's dance scene highlights, along with an interesting twist on the 'final survivor' trope.

Every Friday the 13th movie is lovable and should be watched by horror fans, but The Final Chapter is perhaps the most '80s-esque in a way that ages like a fine wine - the older we get, the more enjoyable it is.
