True Blood star Nelsan Ellis dies at 39

True Blood star Nelsan Ellis has died, aged 39.

Ellis, who played Lafayette Reynolds, passed away after complications with heart failure, his manager, Emily Gerson Saines, told The Hollywood Reporter.

"He was a great talent, and his words and presence will be forever missed."

Lafayette was a short-order cook at Merlotte's who was killed off in the True Blood books, but survived in the TV series.

"We were extremely saddened to hear of the passing of Nelsan Ellis," True Blood network HBO said in a statement.

"Nelsan was a long-time member of the HBO family whose groundbreaking portrayal of Lafayette will be remembered fondly within the overall legacy of True Blood. Nelsan will be dearly missed by his fans and all of us at HBO."

Ellis appeared in several TV and movie projects, including The Soloist, The Bulter, Get On Up and Elementary.
