The puppeteer who has voiced The Muppet's Kermit the Frog for 27 years says he has been fired from the show.

Steve Whitmire published a blog post on Thursday, saying he was "devastated" to have failed the man he took over from, Jim Henson, who died in 1990.

"For me The Muppets are not just a job, or a career or even a passion. They are a calling - an urgent, undeniable, impossible-to-resist way of life," he wrote on his blog, which is somewhat difficult to read thanks to a very green background.

"This is my life's work since I was 19 years old. I feel that I am at the top of my game, and I want all of you who love The Muppets to know that I would never consider abandoning Kermit."

Whitmire wrote he had "experienced every emotion possible" since the news, which he was delivered a full nine months ago. He wrote he kept the news quiet out of hope the network would reverse the decision.

Clearly disgruntled, he wrote: "I have offered multiple remedies to their two stated issues, which had never been mentioned to me prior to that phone call."
