A young boy who saved his brother's life using moves he saw in an action film will now meet his hero, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.

In July, 10-year-old Jacob O'Connor found his two-year-old brother Dylan lying face-down in a pool at their grandmother's home in Detroit.

Global News reported the young boy recently watched San Andreas, a film in which Johnson plays a helicopter pilot who rescues his daughter from a near-drowning.

Jacob said he remembered the chest compression moves Johnson performed in the scene and used them on his brother, saving his life.

The actor and ex-wrestler posted a video to Instagram at the weekend, inviting Jacob to visit him on the set of his latest film. Jacob credited the Fast and the Furious star for the life-saving moves.

The film star said the story of the boy's heroism "grabbed my heart".

Johnson said the young boy was a "was a real-life hero. I'm so proud of you, so much so I have got to meet you. I have got to shake the hand of a real-life hero".

Johnson was impressed he'd learned to administer CPR "by watching this big, brown, bald, tattooed guy in his favourite movie, San Andreas".

"We're going to fly you guys up here to Vancouver to the set of Skyscraper, on my movie set, and I'm going to give you a big hug. I want to meet your little brother, I want to meet your mom."

Further sweetening the deal, he said the best part was that on his movie sets, "it's like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, dude".

"You can eat all the sweets you want, and it's all free! Yes! It's free. Well, somebody's paying for it, but you and Uncle DJ… we don't pay."
