Bethesda, the game publisher behind Fallout 4 and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, is allegedly working on an epic Game of Thrones game.

Retail outlet Target published a mostly blank web page with the phrase "Bethesda: Game of Thrones", according to multiple online reports.

The page suggests a Game of Thrones game from Bethesda will be announced soon, which follows other unverified leaks and rumours of such a game. The news would be very exciting for fantasy fans.

The Elder Scrolls games are set in huge, epic fantasy worlds that can easily be likened to Game of Thrones; however, tonally the Witcher game franchise is closer to the HBO series, with nudity, sexual content and swearing.

"We have two larger projects that are more classically the scale of what we do, but even bigger," Bethesda boss Todd Howard said earlier this year.

A handful of games based on the Game of Thrones TV show and the Song of Ice and Fire book series it's adapted from have already been released, but none set in a large, Elder Scrolls-esque world.

The final episode of the seventh season of Game of Thrones screens in New Zealand on Monday, August 28.
