Game of Thrones S07E06: What Jon Snow should've done beyond the wall

The latest episode of Game of Thrones featured what was probably the silliest quest ever featured in the hit fantasy show.

Predictably, it didn't turn out very well - and it really didn't have to be that way.

Spoilers for Game of Thrones S07E06 follow.

The sixth episode of Game of Thrones season seven, entitled 'Beyond the Wall', sees Jon Snow lead a small band of heroes into battle against the army of the dead in order to capture a wight and transport it back to King's Landing.

They somehow managed to obtain a zombie, but in the process lost a dragon, which the army of the dead has converted into a weapon of mass destruction for evil purposes.

Additionally, some of the other good guys were injured, not to mention Thoros and Benjen also being killed.

They had a bunch of great minds together to come up with this foolish quest and couldn't think of any smarter ideas.

Well, here's a couple.

Remember how they're always going on about having to burn the dead up there beyond the wall? In season one, we saw what happens if you don't - the dead turn into wights, even if there's no white walker nearby to do it.

This happened in Castle Black and Jon Snow had to waste his first zombie, with the help of his direwolf Ghost, saving Lord Commander Mormont in the process.

So why didn't Jon Snow just take a really bad prisoner just north of the wall, kill him, have him turn undead, then take that one back to Kings Landing?

OK, that's maybe just too simple.

When the band of heroes travelled north, they could've kidnapped Jaime Lannister and shown him the army of the dead, then whipped him back to King's Landing to tell Cersei about what he saw.

According to how travel works in the show now, everyone seems to be able to teleport everywhere with ease, so it could've been done in a jiffy - especially if they travelled by dragon.

Does Cersei even care about the army of the dead, anyway? She's into mass murder on an enormous scale and may just enjoy seeing zombies destroy her enemies.

Anyway, the above are just a couple of ideas that seem smarter than what Team Snow/Targaryen came up with for this silly quest.

All silliness aside, there are only a few sleeps until the final episode of Game of Thrones season seven is broadcast in New Zealand on Monday, August 28.
