Kevin Hart has given US$25,000 (NZD$35,000) to victims of Hurricane Harvey, appealing his famous friends to also donate to the cause.

He posted on Instagram on Sunday (local time), challenging others to step up and help out in the relief efforts for those in Houston, Texas, affected by the devastating flood.

The 38-year-old comedian reached out to celebrities including Beyonce, Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Dwayne Johnson and Jerry Seinfeld to do the same.

He has also been sharing safety tips from police on his Instagram.

In addition to Hart, other celebrities have stepped up to help those Houston residents in need. On Sunday, Drake shared on Instagram that he was "working with local relief groups to aid and assist the people of Texas in any way" he could. "I encourage everyone to do what they can to assist the people of Texas knowing whatever effort you can make to help will go a long way," the rapper captioned a photo of Texas.
