Scribe jokes with media outside court

Rapper Scribe has arrived for his scheduled hearing at the Porirua District Court on Thursday afternoon, after making a sly quip earlier in the day to waiting media.

When asked how many court 'no shows' he could do he told Newshub, "not many" – a reference to the lyrics in his iconic song of the same name.

Scribe was the subject of a police appeal on Wednesday after he failed to appear in Christchurch District Court on drug and weapon charges.

The 38-year-old, whose real name is Malo Luafutu, covered his head with a cap, hood and sunglasses in an attempt to avoid waiting media.

On Thursday he refused to answer why he'd failed to appear in the Christchurch District Court on Wednesday, or how he intended to plead.

Earlier on Thursday he had requested at the court enquiries desk that his case be heard on Friday, but that request was declined.
