Taylor Swift's Look What You Made Me Do lyrics - what do they mean?

Taylor Swift's new single 'Look What You Made Me Do' has been released and its lyrics are a pointed attack on an unnamed adversary.

The 'Bad Blood' hitmaker, who has notable rivalries with the likes of Katy Perry, Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, also proclaims her own previous persona as "dead" in the song.

While the new track mostly refers to one, singular enemy, Taylor also makes reference to a "list" - presumably, a list similar to The Bachelor NZ star Naz's infamous "hit list", or the kill list of Game of Thrones character Arya Stark.

Despite rumours of Kanye preparing a retaliatory diss track to launch in response to any mention of his wife, initial reports claim that Taylor does indeed have Kim in her sights with this first single off upcoming album Reputation.

The new track reveals "a vindictive new Taylor", according to Helen Jung on Cosmpolitan, who suggests it is aimed at Kim.

"She chants the title refrain like she's in a trance - a revenge trance. Did you think you could f**k with Taylor? You were wrong. Who could "you" be in this case, do we think? Someone with the initials KKW, perhaps?"

Seventeen writer Lilian Min agrees: "The song seems to address her feud with Kim Kardashian West as well as the widespread backlash that followed."

Teen Vogue, however, suggests the track is aimed at Kanye himself, with the second line referring to the "tilted stage" of his Saint Pablo tour and the phone call about the dead "old Taylor" referring to their phone call he recorded.

Only Taylor herself knows the true foe she sings of here, but countless fans and haters around the world are digging into the lyrics in search of further meaning.

Taylor Swift's 'Look What You Made Me Do' lyrics are presented below in full:

I don't like your little games
Don't like your tilted stage
The role you made me play
Of the fool, no, I don't like you
I don't like your perfect crime
How you laugh when you lie
You said the gun was mine
Isn't cool, no, I don't like you (oh!)

But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time
Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time
I've got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined
I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!

Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do

I don't like your kingdom keys
They once belonged to me
You ask me for a place to sleep
Locked me out and threw a feast (what?)
The world moves on, another day, another drama, drama
But not for me, not for me, all I think about is karma
And then the world moves on, but one thing's for sure
Maybe I got mine, but you'll all get yours

But I got smarter, I got harder in the nick of time
Honey, I rose up from the dead, I do it all the time
I've got a list of names and yours is in red, underlined
I check it once, then I check it twice, oh!

Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do

I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams
I don't trust nobody and nobody trusts me
I'll be the actress starring in your bad dreams
(Look what you made me do)
(Look what you made me do)
"I'm sorry, the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now."
"Why?"
"Oh, 'cause she's dead!"

Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me
Ooh, look what you made me do
Look what you made me do
Look what you just made me do
Look what you just made me do
