Revellers at the Burning Man festival in Nevada drank fresh human breast milk as one of the attractions this year.

The 2017 event was covered by news outlets around the world after a man died from severe burns after running into the titular burning effigy at the festival's climax, but it's in the headlines again over the unusual beverage.

Miki Agrawal claims to have supplied 30 to 40 attendees with what she told the Washington Post was her "gift... to people who wanted some healing".

"So many were excited and curious to try it," Ms Agrawal said in an Instagram post, showing her pumping milk at the festival.

"Some people downed a whole four ounces hoping for a hangover cure. Some wanted it for their coffee to make lattes."

The Washington Post adds that the festival is notorious for orgies and large amounts of hallucinogenic drugs - along with the fact that the selling of human breast milk is a regularly reoccurring news story.

This year Burning Man's theme was 'Radical Ritual', with organisers inviting participants to celebrate "the ambiguous ground that lies between reverence and ridicule, faith and belief, the absurd and the stunningly sublime".

Tycho, Carl Cox, DJ Tennis, Jamie Jones and Dixon were among the 137 musical acts on the 2017 line-up.
