If your childhood was defined by fantasy television show Sabrina the Teenage Witch, you are either going to be thrilled or horrified news it's coming back.

The show, about a spunky teenage witch living with her aunts and her talking cat Salem, is getting a reboot. The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina will be a dark reimagining of the original.

The same producers who brought us Riverdale will be creating the new drama series, and speculation is that it will be of a similar tone.

Melissa Joan Hart played Sabrina Spellman in the original series, which ran from 1996 to 2003. There's no word yet on who will play the new title role.

In a statement Warner Brothers said the show will see Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her "dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal, while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family, and the daylight world humans inhabit". They also described it as tonally in the vein of Rosemary's Baby and The Exorcist, so this won't be light watching.

Archie Comics chief creative officer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa will serve as writer and executive producer, while regular Riverdale director Lee Toland Krieger will also direct and executive produce, Refinery 29 reports.

The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is set for release in 2018.
