Justin Bieber is vowing to "stand up" for Black Lives Matter and "shine a light" on racism, which he says is more prevalent now than ever before in his lifetime.

The 23-year-old Canadian pop star is making the statement as US President Donald Trump comes under fire for using vulgar language to attack men of colour for peacefully protesting.

Bieber took to Instagram to post an image of the Black Lives Matter slogan, accompanied with a heartfelt message about racism.

"I am a white Canadian and I will never know what it feels like to be an African-American," the 'Baby' hitmaker says.

"But what I do know is I am willing to stand up and use my voice to shine light on racism, because it's a real thing and it's more prevalent now than I have ever seen in my lifetime. We are all God's children and we are all equal."

Bieber has previously been accused of appropriating black culture and criticised for not speaking out against racism. Videos of him using the word "n**ger" also caused controversy when they surfaced in 2014.
