Married at First Sight NZ 2017: Meet Luke

Married at First Sight NZ launches on Three this Sunday night and one of the brave singles tying the knot is Luke.

The 34-year-old from Raglan is a pro surfer, but now is about to become known by another role - one of the new husbands on the reality television show.

The wave rider is clearly a little spiritual, saying he tried to manage his nerves as much as possible "by just sort of centering myself and living in the now".

He quickly clarified: "I thought it was kind of a joke, the living in the now, but I actually was living in the now and just trying to live in each moment, and that sort of helped me to survive and not get too nervous."

OK…

While most friends and family might find the idea of getting married to a stranger on a reality television show strange, Luke had "almost too much support".

"When I throw out ideas, they're sort of like 'yeah do that!'"

In the age of Tinder and Bumble, serial dating has become a norm, but it's not for Luke.

"I've been on three dates in my life," he laughed. "I've never really been a dater.

"I thought, you know, let's skip all that awkward stuff and go to the point."

We played 'Married at First Scent' with Luke at the Newshub office and it was… a success?
