Real Housewives of Auckland's Julia Sloane opens up about racism, sex

Julia Sloane, the Real Housewives of Auckland star who notoriously called a co-star a "n*****", has opened up about the incident one year on.

In an interview with NZME, the 48-year-old admits the slur she used against Michelle Blanchard was wrong - but insists it wasn't 'overtly' racist.

"It was not overt racism - I don't like being labelled that... at worse it could be said it was causal racism," says Sloane.

"I don't want to be remembered as the racist one."

She adds that she believes 'overt racism' means "someone who is trying to be really hurtful to somebody by discriminating against their race".

Sloane, who is married to 66-year-old merchant banker Michael Lorimer, says she is working on a new documentary show about sex.

"It covers sex and sexuality - fetish, bondage, geriatric sex," she says, adding that she hoped it would be "titillating".

In The Real Housewives of Auckland, Sloane annoyed her husband by showing off her sex toys for the cameras - but says he's not annoyed by her cosmetic surgery, which includes $9000 spent on breast augmentation alone.

Sloane also used the interview to promote one of her children's books that had been republished with Te Reo phrases for Māori Language Week.

Meanwhile, Girls creator and star Lena Dunham has today shared her enjoyment of The Real Housewives of Auckland, which is being broadcast in the US on the Bravo network.

She shared two posts on her Instagram story of her and a friend enjoying the Kiwi reality TV show.
