The Block NZ 2017: Stace and Yanita open up after controversial auction

Block stars Stace and Yanita have spoken out for the first time since the controversial auction night, saying they're moving on as "there are more important things in life".

The last time we saw the best friends from Palmerston North they were close to tears and holding each other after Sunday night's auction - which they thought they had won, after claiming $20,000 more than the reserve.

A twist at the 11th hour saw competing team Nate and Andy return for a second auction, and taking out the winning prize of $100,000 along with the $30,000 above reserve.

While Stace and Yanita seemed unable to speak on the night, today they both were a lot more upbeat.

"We've had a moment to download and we're feeling really good at the moment," Stace said. "We're feeling really grateful for the experience."

"We've had so much support from the public, and we make no secret that we were upset," Yanita added.

"But we've realised now there are more important things in life. We've been humbled by the support and we're grateful to New Zealand for giving us a bit of comfort, but we're sure people have more important things to focus on now."

Block host Mark Richardson told Three's The AM Show on Wednesday fans should donate their money elsewhere, in the wake of several Givealittle pages which have sprung up in the wake of the auction.

Stace and Yanita said today they "totally agree with Mark".

"We're grateful that people have donated money to us, [but] we're reality show contestants and there are plenty of better causes that are deserving of that money.

"We've decided to donate the money raised for us to Lifeline Aotearoa."

Going forward, the best friends have plans in the works for a new venture.

"We can't give away too much...but it's a platform to help you New Zealanders, especially young women," Yanita revealed.

Blockaholics, you haven't' seen the last of Stace and Yanita just yet.
