The Block season 6 week 9 recap: And you thought Game of Thrones had plot twists

This week was set to be a biggie for our Block family - $7000 on the line for the winning entryway and stairwell.

One day there might be an entryway and stairwell week on The Block where the teams don't hideously underestimate the workload involved. But this was not one of those weeks.

All the teams just about killed themselves trying to get these mammoth spaces fit to be walked into and have coats and gumboots scattered in them.

But, unexpectedly, the biggest excitement of the week was ol' Marko sending home Julia and Ali, to rest and recuperate at home after facing extreme amounts of bullying online.

I think my feelings on the situation were summed up by Stace, who was unusually sassy this evening: "I've been abused by them on television and I wasn't told I could have the weekend off."  *Mic drop from DJ Stace.*

The remaining teams were all called to House 3 to get some answers, as well as engage in a game changer with the chance to win a +1 for the next reveal.

Mark telling the teams that despite them also being shattered, exhausted, fragile, dusty and smelly, they were staying on for the long haul, went down really, really well.

Really well.

Still the teams soldiered on to play a game where they had to shoot small paper darts at each other's faces, just to really keep that team morale up. Ling accidentally taking out his own team member was a real metaphor for life, am I right?

With a distinct lack of room reveal on Sunday's episode, this is going to be short recap from me, folks. I am personally bitterly disappointed I didn't get to cast aspersions on the craftsmanship done by people who have been working 76 days straight from my cushy chair in the newsroom.

But I was not nearly as angry as Sassy Stace, with this golden quote: "We stayed up and painted the crap out of our hallway and it looks amazing."

Eek, Stace gal better get into some yoga ASAP Rocky - only downward dog might pull you out of this funk.

I will say though, the lack of judging really gave Peter Wolfkamp time to shine on Sunday's episode, which was a real gift in itself. From his sick burn to Ling about stoppering his mouth, to his sassy side comments aimed at the producers about his allocated carpark being "miles away", we really got to see The Wolf stretch his comedy chops. Let's not forget the cutest of cute interactions between Wolfkamp and his NZ Post delivery guy. The nickname, the handshake, the "see you again!" - it was too much. I got weirdly teary.

With no judging or wins to end on, I'll end this short recap on some wise words of advice from the omnipresent face of Three: Mark Richardson.

"Hey you know what guys? Sometimes life's not fair."

That's especially for you kind readers, because you unfairly miss out on my uneducated and unrequested opinions about interiors! But soft hands and courage folks, it will all be back and better than ever next week.

The Block NZ airs Monday-Wednesday at 7:30pm and Sundays at 7pm on Three.
