Tight security enforced at Ariana Grande concert

Tight security at the Ariana Grande concert at Auckland's Spark Arena has forced fans to leave their bags at home, but doesn't seem to have dampened spirits.

The 'Problem' hitmaker is performing in New Zealand for the first time ever as part of her Dangerous Woman tour, which is scheduled for a total of 77 shows globally.

Grande concertgoers had to forego cameras as well as bags, but essentials such as mobile phones, wallets and medication was allowed if it was stored inside a clear zip lock bag.

The safety measures follow the terror attack at the US pop star's Manchester concert earlier this year.

Spark Arena also carried out security scans and pat-downs on attendees, but fans at the venue early were eager to cheer enthusiastically for a Newshub camera operator.

The concert is set to wrap up around 10pm on Saturday night.
