Beyoncé has turned 36 years old and the internet is being flooded with fans and loved ones paying tribute to her.

Among those wishing the 'Drunk In Love' singer a happy birthday was her father Mathew Knowles, who broke down in tears in a video he posted for his daughter.

"Morning, Beyoncé. It's September 4th. I can remember the day you were born - my first time seeing a baby born. I was actually in the room," said Knowles.

"This is your city. Your city loves you, but more importantly, I love you. I love you with all my heart. [I'm] so proud of you. I just wanted to tell you happy birthday."

Beyoncé has had a strained relationship with her father and former manager, separating from him professionally in 2011.

He then angered Beyoncé's formidable fanbase, known as the 'Beyhive', earlier this year when he tweeted that she had given birth to twins before Beyoncé herself could announce the news.

Her husband, Jay-Z, who has celebrated his wife's previous birthdays with love notes and video montages, took it up a notch this year.

During his set at the Made in America festival, the rapper asked the crowd to sing happy birthday to her, to which they happily obliged.

Beyoncé herself published a series of 18 photographs on her official website, which feature her friends and family members recreating one of her iconic music video costumes.

The group, which included Beyoncé's daughter Blue Ivy, tennis champion Serena Williams and former First Lady Michelle Obama, all wore the signature wide-brimmed hat and braids from the 'Formation' video.

Released last year as the lead single from her critically acclaimed visual album Lemonade, the song and video were an ode to black culture and self-love.

Beyoncé's website also includes a link to BeyGood Houston, her fundraising drive for Hurricane Harvey relief in Houston, her home city.
