BBC anchor delivers hilariously deadpan royal baby news

A BBC anchor has earned plaudits for his deliberately unenthusiastic delivery of royal baby news.

Princess Kate announced on Tuesday that her and husband Prince William's third child is due to arrive in April, amid huge interest from the British public.

Kensington Palace made a short statement about the young child, who will be fifth in line to the British throne - but when it came through to the BBC studio, McCoy was less than passionate about it.

McCoy read the statement out on air, before launching into a mocking rant about the news value of the story.

"Now, bearing in mind that they announced that she was pregnant back in September and it was thought that she was around two or three months pregnant, I'm not sure how much news this really is," he said.

"But anyway, it's April - so clear your diaries, get the time booked off because that's what I'm doing," he continued, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

McCoy gave a similarly iconic take on royal baby news back in 2013, when he was the reporter at St Mary's Hospital ahead of Prince George's birth.

He famously read out BBC viewers' criticisms of their saturated coverage of the birth, before admitting he had no information to give since his last live-cross and admitting he had just been speculating up until that point.

McCoy also drew headlines for his apathetic delivery of a story on surfing dogs back in April.
