Sports stars and celebrities have praised Eminem for his nearly five-minute freestyle rap against Donald Trump at the BET Awards.

In the rap, the 'Lose Yourself' hitmaker touched on topics as recent as the Las Vegas shooting and the natural disaster in Puerto Rico, while verbally assaulting the former Celebrity Apprentice star on several aspects of his political career.

He also raised his fist for NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick, who kickstarted the 'take a knee' movement against racial injustice and police brutality during the US national anthem last year, and has been targeted by Trump and his supporters for "disrespecting the flag".

Since the video aired, Eminem has been trending internationally on Facebook and Twitter.

Kaepernick was one of the first to voice his support for Eminem on Twitter, writing "I appreciate you" alongside a clip from the video.

NBA star LeBron James also chimed in with lyrics from the rap.

Other celebrities voicing their support for the rapper include J Cole, Ellen DeGeneres and political commentator Keith Olbermann.
