Donald Trump skewered by furious celebrities, comedians over Puerto Rico response

Celebrities are condemning US President Donald Trump over his response to the disaster in Puerto Rico, with some of the sharpest comments coming from the season premiere of Saturday Night Live.

The former Celebrity Apprentice host is under fire for golfing rather than attending the US territory and tweeting scathing comments about the mayor of San Juan after she begged for federal assistance.

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian, whose husband Kanye West and step-father Caitlyn Jenner have publicly supported Mr Trump, took to Twitter to plead with him to "step up and help".

Comedian Michael Che unleashed on Mr Trump in his segment on Saturday Night Live, taking particular issue with his calling San Juan Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz "nasty".

"Oh, really, Donald, you bitch? Was she nasty to you?" Che asked.

"This isn't that complicated, man. It's hurricane relief. These people need help. You just did this for white people, twice. Do the same thing... write them a cheque with our money, you cheap cracker."

Other celebrities tweeted messages that also pleaded with the president to help save lives of Puerto Ricans in need, insulted him, or both.
