A young Gisborne woman with terminal cancer says she can't wipe the smile off her face, after pop star Ed Sheeran filmed a video, wishing her "all the love in the world".
Brooke Hunter, 23, was diagnosed with Wilms cancer on her kidneys in 2015. The disease is one of the most common forms affecting children and young adults.
Brooke's aunt, Tania Stallard, told Newshub it's been "two years of hard fighting, with many rounds of chemo, a loss of a kidney, stem cell harvests and transplants".
The treatments are no longer proving effective and last month, Brooke was told nothing more could be done.
"The next day she was out raising money for canteen, getting involved in a sausage sizzle fundraiser… One of those people that touches everybody that she's meets. She's a gentle kind soul," Ms Stallard said.
Brooke's friends are rallying around her, and her friend Ramari Wanoa was determined to get a message from the 'Shape Of You' singer to her.
Brooke wrote on Facebook last month that she now knows "what being star struck officially feels like", after receiving a video from the pop superstar.
"Hey Brooke, I thought I would send you a video to let you know I'm thinking about you," Sheeran said in the clip.
"I'm sending you all the love in the world and I hope you're okay. Lots of love."
Brooke wrote on Facebook that she had watched the video "probably about 100 times".
"It's something I can look at all the time to make me smile and that's the most important thing in the world."
The family has set up a Givealittle page, and Ms Stallard said they hope to get Brooke, her parents and brother across to the Gold Coast for one last family holiday.
So far the page has raised a little more than $10,000.
