An actor who owes over half of his filmography to Harvey Weinstein's companies has announced he's donating future residual profits from his movies to Women in Film.

Of Kevin Smith's 13 feature-length movies, over half were produced by Weinstein, including Chasing Amy, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, Jersey Girl, Zack and Miri Make a Porno, Clerks and its sequel Clerks II, People reports.

Smith says all future residuals from Weinstein-connected projects will go to the non-profit organization advocating for progress and gender parity in the industry. Should the Weinstein Company fold and the movies lose their value, he also pledged US$2,000 a month for the rest of his life the organisation.

Smith tweeted earlier this month that he was "ashamed" about his connection with Weinstein.

"He financed the first 14 years of my career - and now I know while I was profiting, others were in terrible pain," he wrote.

On his Hollywood Babble-On podcast, Smith lamented that his "entire career is tied up with the man".

"I just wanted to make some f**king movies, that's it...And no fucking movie is worth all this. Like, my entire career, f**k it, take it."
