Taika Waititi has Jimmy Kimmel interview crashed by Matt Damon

It was a chance for Kiwi actor and director Taika Waititi to promote the upcoming Thor movie, but his moment on The Jimmy Kimmel Show was stolen by Hollywood actor Matt Damon.

As Chris Hemsworth was promoting Thor: Ragnarok on Tuesday (local time), the actor revealed director Waititi and co-star Mark Ruffalo were watching backstage.

While Waititi and Ruffalo were chatting with the late-night host from backstage in the green room, Damon, who has had a long running joke feud with the host, snuck into the side of the frame.

"Hold on a second. Let me talk to Taika," host Kimmel said, telling the cameraman to "get the camera away from that side".

Kimmel apologised for "the interruption," only to have Damon sneak in to position himself next to the director. "It's the mighty Thor not the mighty bore," Kimmel shouted at Damon, who declared, "I'm on the show!"

"You're not on the show," Kimmel told him. "This does not count as being on the show!"

Hemsworth went along with the joke, telling Kimmel he's "friends with him," but only out of pity. "I feel sorry for him. He has nothing. I saw a friend in need, so I just decided to extend a handshake...he turned up at my house in Australia uninvited. But I'm an open person, so..."

Thor: Ragnarok opens in New Zealand cinemas on October 26.
