Talk-show host Wendy Williams faints live on air

Talk-show host Wendy Williams gave her audience a fright on Tuesday (local time) when she passed out live on television.

The host of The Wendy Williams Show was dressed as the Statue of the Liberty in a close fitting sparkly green dress and large headpiece.

About to present her annual 'How You Booin' Halloween Costume Contest, Williams began to slur her words and sway back and forth, before falling to the floor. Gasps and screams could be heard from the live audience.

The show immediately cut to an almost six-minute-long ad break.

When it returned, Williams was already back on stage, still dressed in her costume.

"That was not a stunt," she said. "I overheated in my costume and I did pass out. But, you know what? I'm a champ and I'm back!"

Spokesperson from the show Ronn Torossian told Entertainment Weekly that Williams overheated in her heavy costume, make-up, and the lights, and will not be taking a break from hosting.

"Ms Williams fainted on-air this morning," Torossian said.

"She is dehydrated and is on her way home for a good day and night of sleep.  She has been examined by medical professionals and is well.  She is ok and will continue as shows as planned. She will address this on-air tomorrow.

"She has never missed a day of work and is looking forward on November 13th to her 1500th show."

Viewers watching the live broadcast immediately turned to Twitter, unsure whether it was a real or a Halloween themed stunt.
