The moment Married At First Sight's Brett put his foot in it in front of his wife

Two of our favourites from Married At First Sight NZ have given some insider knowledge into their wedding day and revealed how we narrowly missed seeing a potential disaster.

Brett, 34, and Angel, 26, have been a consistently bright and positive contrast to the dark gloom of the break-ups and make-ups elsewhere on the show.

Angel told Newshub that although "it was quite nerve-racking when you find out you're marrying a stranger", she practically ran down the aisle when she saw her future husband.

"I pretty much ditched Dad," she said. "I could just see this dark bobble of a head in the distance; this guy just grinning like a Cheshire Cat".

Brett said he was feeling a similar way.

"I felt a lot of anxiety [which] I'd never dealt before, it was a whole new level of nervousness!"

This apprehension meant he didn't really eat or drink during the day - which almost led to a terrible moment.

"During the wedding I had to pick up Angel and I thought I might collapse... It was quite funny," he told us, apparently unaware of how this would sound to his nearby wife.

At this point Angel nearly fell off the back our our couch in (horrified) laughter... but Brett managed to gather himself.

"Not because of her weight, but because I hadn't eaten or slept," he quickly clarified.

The pair also talked about the "most awkward bath ever" - the single-person tub they took together during their honeymoon in the Barossa Valley.

"We think this thing is a four jet spa bath, we think there's going to be champagne and it's going to be luxurious... then we find out it's a one-person tub," Angel laughed.

"You can see it was awkward on camera."
