Tom Petty is the latest icon of 20th century music to leave this mortal coil, dying aged 66 after suffering a cardiac arrest in his Malibu, California home.
He'd only just finished a large-scale tour, which he'd said was likely to be his "last big one", telling Rolling Stone he wanted to spend as much time as possible with his granddaughter.
Petty has an enormous number of hits under his belt - his 1993 Greatest Hits album had 18 tracks on it and he continued to release records following its release.
Narrowing them down to the very best is no mean feat, but here, in no particular order, are my top five Tom Petty songs of all time:
