Austria's Next Top Model contestants in tears over 'appalling' fully nude shoot

Austria's Next Top Model has triggered outrage with its latest episode, in which young women had to strip completely naked and be touched by male models for a risqué shoot.

One contestant broke down in tears, others looked distressed and one stormed off the set during the challenge, which took place during the second episode of the show's eighth season.

Some of the dramatic scenes are featured in a racy YouTube promo for the episode.

It's not unheard of for the Top Model franchise to feature its entrants in swimwear or lingerie, but fully nude is going too far for many on social media.

"This is an absolute disgrace... the producers should be sacked immediately," writes Facebook user Bronny Lane.

"Just another example of the degradation and humiliation that young women suffer in media. I'm appalled."

Writes Jane Louise in her Facebook post: "Unbelievable! Control and manipulation by those in power over vulnerable young girls. Shocked that this has been seen by someone as acceptable in the first instance and then to be shown on TV."

The nude photo challenge paired the contestants up with another model and photographer Kartin Schöning. They were given just 15 minutes to capture the perfect photo on a balcony at a plush country house.

The Next Top Model brand was created by Tyra Banks and has been broadcast in more than 120 countries.

The winner normally receives a modelling contract, cosmetics campaign and a fashion magazine spread that also includes the front cover.
