One of New Zealand's favourite drama series has been nominated for an international award.

Three's Westside has been announced as a finalist in C21's International Drama Awards, in the Best Returning Drama category.

The South Pacific Pictures drama series is up against some big international shows, including Humans, Top of the Lake; China Girl, Broadchurch and Fear of the Walking Dead. The awards are voted on by the world's leading scripted commissioners and buyers, and draw 572 entries across 11 categories.

A prequel series to Outrageous Fortune, Westside has aired on Kiwi screens since 2015.

"This is fantastic recognition for the cast and crew of Westside," says South Pacific Pictures CEO Kelly Martin.

"We're immensely proud of the show and pleased to see it sitting alongside such quality international drama."

The chairman of the judges, C21 editor-in-chief and managing director David Jenkinson, said: "With nearly 100 commissioners and buyers voting for these awards, they really are the most considered television drama awards in the international content business.

"The standard has been exceptional this year and we are delighted there were so many stellar entries."

The winners will be announced at the International Drama Awards Ceremony on November 29, as part of the International Drama Summit 2017.
