US rapper Macklemore has opened up about why he owns a painting of a very nude Justin Bieber.

The artwork, which was first reported on in a Rolling Stone feature early last year, features the 'What Do You Mean?' hitmaker completely naked but for a pancake covering his genitals.

Speaking on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, Macklemore said he's "very proud" of the artwork, and explained its origin.

"I bought it on Etsy as a White Elephant Santa gift that, at the end of the night, just stayed in my house - no one took it," he said.

"I'm very proud of it. It's become a huge headline. Like, Mackelmore owns a naked Justin Bieber dick pancake painting."

The 'Thrift Shop' rapper also admitted that he keeps the painting in he and his wife's bedroom, and uses it as a tool to stop him peaking too early when they're having intercourse.

"It goes right above my bed, and whenever I'm with my wife intimately, I can always stare at it if I want to control my orgasm - just slow it down," he said.

Fellow rap star T-Pain, who was on the show at the same time, said the answer to the question on why Macklemore owned the painting "must've been burning a hole" in Bieber's brain.

Macklemore is coming to New Zealand in February 2018, and will be performing a show in both Wellington and Auckland.
