Married At First Sight NZ 2017 episode 12 recap: Man gets piercing after visit to South Island ghetto

Post dinner party fun and games, the couples on Married At First Sight NZ tonight got to talk and talk and TALK about how they're feeling at this point in their relationships.

I genuinely feel now I've heard these couples say more words about each other than I've heard my father say in my entire lifetime. Their voices haunt my dreams. Sometimes I jerk awake in the night, thinking I can hear Aaron saying "Ben has been a bit upset today".

The couples were all in very different places emotionally this evening. In one apartment, we have Brett and Angel. Angel's biggest difficulty of the night was trying to cut the stems off the flowers Brett spontaneously bought her because you know, he wanted to make my day a bit worse I guess.

In comparison, in a nearby apartment Vicky was all smiles at the thought of her and Andrew facing a week apart.

"There's nothing that's gonna make it any easier," Andrew said sucking down a pepsi to drown his sorrows.

"I'm quite looking forward to it," Vicky replied, the most animated we've seen her since she was doing those weird f**king accents with Ben at their party.

Somewhere in the middle lay Ben and Aaron; back on speaking terms again after last night's disaster where Ben lost his sh*t because Aaron stayed out all night, doing exactly the thing Ben has been in trouble for doing and said wasn't a problem, but it was not all good this time because it was Aaron I guess, hahaha I don't know what's happening I've given up trying to make logical sense, someone sedate me.

I once tried to get a nose piercing but apparently my glasses were too heavy for it to heal. Just a bit about me.

But Ben was actually pretty chipper and fun after treating himself to a fresh fade and a nose piercing, as I like to do myself on a typical Tuesday morning. We got to hear about the pretty Committee Halloween Party, which was apparently going to be the "party of the month". I'm a bit confused because Halloween was a week ago and I still haven't received an e-vite? But maybe they're pushing it out because it's been raining. I'll continue to wait.

Let's get to the therapy sessions, so we can hear them talk about themselves a bit more. Yay!

Brett and Angel's session started off basically as you'd expect to: both smiling a lot and trying to climb into each other's skin.

Angel had matched her outfit to the animal hide skin rug and zebra pri so that was aesthetically pleasing. They got top marks from their teachers about their A+ behaviour at the cocktail party.

It was just one big love fest.

"Thank you for putting us together," B&A kept saying to to the psychologists.

"No thank you, for giving this your all," Tony and Pani twinkled over their wonder children.

"NO, THANK YOU" Angel laughed manically back at the psychologists.

Tony mischievously pointed out that a lot of viewers were probably "pretty jealous" of the loved-up duo right now!

YEAH OK WE GET IT TONY. WHO'S JEALOUS NOT ME. YOU'RE JEALOUS. YOU'RE NOT EVEN MY REAL FATHER. DON'T TELL ME HOW TO FEEL.

Ben and Aaron

Ben stepped up his new look even further, sporting a pair of (I assume) non-prescription spectacles with his fun new hair and savage nose stud. I guess now he's been to Christchurch he's seen the dark side of the ghetto. Most people who have been in Lyttelton do get some form of piercing after returning through the tunnel.

Dressed for a Levis shoot, the boys tentatively danced around the issues, including the fact that things between them improved when they weren't together. Maybe that's a telling sign, but IDK I'm no expert.

Ben seized on both the rips on his jeans and the opportunity to be upset about something Aaron had done for once, continuing to mouth off about how upset he was that Aaron stayed out all night with his ex. Don't get me wrong, that's a really shitty thing to do.

But it soon became apparent that they were out because Aaron and his ex were working together. As a paramedic. In an ambulance. Saving lives. Til 3am.

I mean it's not the noble act of going out and getting shit faced with your friends but….it's probably an acceptable excuse.

Or as Tony says "you also chose to hang out with your friends and do different bits and pieces". So that was pretty cute.

In therapy Vicky got to open up a bit about where some of her comments about Andrew and Hadyn and basically every other person on the show comes from.

"I'm quite an honest person, I speak my mind," she explained, which is my absolute favourite way people justify mean things they say about other people. "I'm not actually nasty, I just say what I think," she continued in that cute voice that makes all of us at home nod and smile in indulgent agreement.

"It's just a joke!" she added laughing, which again, makes everything totally fine.

Andrew jumped in to defend his wife who absolutely isn't interested in him in the slightest. "Vicky isn't a bad person," he explained to Tony and Pani. It's really good to have Andrew's judgement here on what constitutes good and bad.

Unfortunately while she was in a chatty mood, she couldn't rack her brains for any compliments for Andrew above "kind" and "thoughtful". TBH, in the wake of tonight's revelations, I'd say even that's a stretch.

Andrew ended their therapy session optimistically with an enthusiastic "you haven't heard the end of Vicky and Andrew".

Vicky's face made clear we have absolutely heard the end of Vicky and Andrew.
