Review: Justice League is a disappointment and not nearly enough fun

The DC Comics equivalent of Marvel's Avengers should be a triumphant, kick-ass superhero adventure.

It's not.

It's not aggressively terrible in the way Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice was, but it's not nearly as fun as it should be.

That same po-faced seriousness that has infected Zack Snyder's previous DC movies is still present, but this one has a great deal of humour clumsily sprinkled over the top.

Anyone who actually follows the tropes-laden narrative will be distracted by the enormous plot holes, but I don't imagine many viewers doing so - this is very much a 'turn your brain off' sort of film.

But to work as throwaway, popcorn fare, a movie has to be a lot of fun and Justice League simply is not.

Some of the jokes work and some of the action is cool, but mostly this is a big, dull disappointment.

Warner Bros has huge hopes for its DC Comics line of movies, but sadly, it consistently underwhelms.

Two stars.
