Jay-Jay Harvey makes tearful final goodbye to The Edge

Veteran broadcaster Jay-Jay Harvey has completed her final shift at The Edge, officially putting an end to an impressive 23-year stint at the radio station.

The radio host announced last month that she was stepping down from the role that she'd occupied since 1994, revealing in the process she will take up a new job at MediaWorks in 2018.

Harvey has had a tumultuous last year at The Edge - suffering an alleged sexual assault by a taxi driver and separating from co-host husband Dom Harvey. She also opened up on suffering child abuse, infertility and depression at the end of last year.

But in her goodbye speech she said her only regret at The Edge was not leveraging her celebrity status to get herself a free car - and she also offered up her fair share of advice.

"Merry Christmas, spread the love, stay positive, say only positive things. Good luck to you all, and I'm looking forward to reconnecting with you all in 2018," she said in her final statement on air.

"Thank you for the wildest ride of my life."

Her co-hosts on The Edge Breakfast each gave tributes on her last morning at the station.

"You are an exceptional talent - on the air, nothing fazes you," Clinton Randell said.

"When you throw something at you with 20 seconds to go, you're an absolute pro and nail it every time. I'm really gonna miss that."

Megan Annear - who joined The Edge Breakfast a month ago when Harvey announced her resignation - was reduced to tears speaking about the impact Harvey had had on her.

"I wouldn't know how to go into this job without you as my mentor, by my side," she said.

"I don't think anybody else in the industry would be so open to helping someone else go into their shoes. You've really guided me along the way."

Dom Harvey hailed his ex-partner for being hard-working, nice and always willing to say yes to things, and said that's why she has had such a successful career thus far.

It is not yet known what Jay-Jay will be doing next, but she promises to keep fans informed on her various social media channels.

Annear will take over from Jay-Jay early next year.
