Rita Ora has landed herself in hot water by publishing a photo with MMA champion Conor McGregor and joking that they were dating.

The 'Your Song' singer posted two pictures on Twitter of her and the UFC star getting cozy at the British Fashion Awards, captioning them both: "date night".

Fans have responded angrily on Twitter, claiming the tweet was disrespectful to McGregor's real girlfriend Dee Devlin.

"To knowingly tag another woman's partner in a post saying 'date night' is really poor behaviour. Hope the headlines are worth it," one fan wrote.

"Date night with a married man? This is a common thing for you, isn't it hun," another added.

Even fellow MMA fighter and McGregor's sparring partner Artem Lobov weighed in, with the savage reply: "Sorry Rita, burgers are nice but not when a man has steak at home".

The fighter is known for being a devoted family man, speaking out previously about the struggles he and his girlfriend faced financially during their relationship. They've been together nine years and welcomed their first child, Conor Jr, earlier this year.

McGregor didn't escape criticism though, with one tweet reading: "If I saw a picture of my boyfriend looking at another girl the way Conor McGregor is looking at Rita Ora in that pic I'd spin his head".

Others jumped to Ora's defence, pointing out that her rumoured boyfriend Andrew Watt was there as her actual date. Ora also captioned other pictures from the evening as "date" snaps, including one with designer Doantella Versace.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Ora's camp said the singer meant no offence.

"'Date night' is a figure of speech, Rita also posted selfies with Donatella Versace as her real date and one with Jourdan Dunn," they said.
