The man behind "the worst film ever made" has released a Christmas song.

Tommy Wiseau, the mysterious director of 2003's The Room, posted a recording to Twitter on Saturday (local time) of himself singing and giving advice to his 153,000 followers.

"Christmas song for you !  Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to you ! May all your dreams come true !" reads the caption.

The recording begins with Wiseau thanking his fans for their support, before launching into a freeform performance of what appears to be an original composition for the holiday season.

Lyrics include, "If you don't like the Christmas that's okay, 'cause spirit may guide you," and, "If a lot of people love each other, the world would be a better place to live," which is one of The Room's many well-known quotes.

"Happy holidays - enjoy you guys. Be good," the recording ends. "Bye."

The untitled song is accompanied by a still image of Wiseau sporting a curly mullet hairstyle. The image is slowly zoomed in on throughout the recording, ending with a close-up of his eyes.

Wiseau wrote, directed, produced and acted in The Room, which has gained a cult following for being one of the worst films ever made. Despite being derided for its incoherent plot, bizarre script and questionable performances, it regularly packs out cinemas around the world, where audiences throw spoons at the screen and recite the film along with the actors.

The Room has enjoyed a resurgence in popularity with the 2017 release of The Disaster Artist, which tells the story of the film's production.

The Disaster Artist focuses on the inscrutable Wiseau, played by James Franco, highlighting his strange mannerisms as well as his mysterious past. Wiseau has never revealed his age or his country of origin, and has always insisted he is American despite his distinctive accent.

On January 10, 2018, The Room will get its first-ever wide release, screening in 600 cinemas across the United States for a single day.
