Former Seven Sharp host Toni Street has opened up about her decision to leave the show she hosted for two years.

Speaking to NZME Street said she agonised over the decision for months, but eventually decided to leave in October.

"I had nights where I was in tears to my husband saying 'why am I walking away from this dream job?'," she said.

"But in the end, the decision became quite simple. 'Do you want to see your children in the afternoon and evenings or do you not?' The answer was yes, I want to see them."

Co-host Mike Hosking decided to leave the show at the same time, announcing the decision on-air on Thursday night. Their final show together aired on Friday.

Street says while some may think her schedule hosting a morning radio show and then afternoon show was the reason behind her departure she insists it was not a factor.

"It wasn't an issue of juggling two jobs," she told NZME.

"I feel like regardless of if I had radio, I would still be in this position because it was about working afternoons and evenings. That's when the quality time happens."

TVNZ is yet to announce the replacement for Street and Hosking.
