Demi Lovato has spoken candidly about her sexuality in a new interview, admitting she would be open to dating women.

The 'Tell Me You Love Me' hitmaker features on the cover of InStyle's April 2018 issue, and in the spread said she considered herself "very fluid".

"I think love is love," Lovato said.

"You can find it in any gender. I like the freedom of being able to flirt with whoever I want."

After dating actor Wilmer Valderrama, 38, for six years, Lovato is now single. She says it's helping her find herself.

"I'm not suffering because I'm alone. There were many years I was in a relationship and I wasn't learning about myself. Now I'm learning about what I like, what I need, and what I want."

The 25-year-old singer also opened up about her public history of drug use, eating disorders and self-harm, that was rung through the public eye.

"I grew up in the era of really, really skinny celebrities. That was the look. And it was cool to be seen partying," she said.

"Drugs were glamourised, and when I was 12 or 13, nobody was talking about mental illness. Nobody was talking about eating disorders. Nobody was talking about cutting. I wanted somebody for my little sister to look up to."

But her drug use still haunts her. Narcos and Breaking Bad are two TV shows Lovato says she can't even look at.

"Weed doesn't bother me, but if I see coke or pills or even needles, it just puts them in my brain, and I don't need to see that."
